Additional Information

Attracting Public And The Media

  • If you don't have your site, pick a place easily accessible to the public and a location that will receive flow-thru traffic. (Note: The farther away from town, the less likely the media will attend.) Also, look for details such as adequate parking, bathroom facilities and concession stands.
  • Invite local politicians and dignitaries to attend. To entice them, name them "Honorary Chairpersons" of your event. (Note: These are things the media look for, so mention them in the press releases.)
  • Invite local celebrities to serve as goodwill ambassadors. Send a letter to radio personalities, TV news anchors, the weather person, talk show hosts, business leaders, etc. Ask them to be evaluators, or to present certificates.
  • If celebrities do attend, use their names in all your press releases and flyers and try to get their endorsement. E.g., Jim Jones, XYZ news, said: "I am highly supportive of the, (name of event). It benefits dogs and provides family recreation."
  • Ask your local city official to issue a proclamation recognizing your program and ask him to declare the day of your event "Responsible Dog Ownership Day" etc.
  • The media love pictures of kids and dogs, so be sure to invite local FFA groups and 4-H clubs to attend as special guests. You can also ask them to serve as assistants.
  • Offer door prizes.
  • Distribute plenty of flyers in local stores to publicize the event.

Fund Raising

In addition to bringing families together, working for positive press, improved public relations, and promote a healthier image of the pet industry, dog shows can help raise funds for your club.

Sponsors and exhibitors can more than defray the cost of the facility, judges, and personnel.

To help you accomplish your goals UABR would like to make the following commitment to your club for the shows that are UABR sanctioned.

If requested in advance, UABR will:

  • Provide all ribbons and certificates to be awarded.
  • Donate all entry fees received to the sponsoring club.
  • Register all qualifying dogs being exhibited at no charge to the owner.
  • Update titles on registrations at no charge to the owner.
  • Loan your club a set up of show rings.
