NEW YORK ANTI-PET BILLS TO LIMIT DOG/CAT OWNERSHIP **HEARING SET FOR JUNE 2nd ** There are several bills pending in New York that would amend existing pet dealer licensing laws and would also limit the number of dogs or cats one may possess. Two of these bills, Senate Bill 4961 and Senate Bill 5392, are set for hearing on June 2, 2009. It is important that members of the Senate Agriculture Committee hear from constituents about problems with these bills! SB 5392 would ban the possession, control or custody of more than 50 dogs and cats with intact sexual organs. Violation of this ban would be a criminal offense! The bill also expands the pet dealer licensing law in New York to cover breeders. SB 4961 proposes to expand the pet dealer licensing law as well, and adds extensive new requirements under that law that apply to pet stores and breeders alike. |
